Furano Ski Resort: Where to Stay, Lift Passes & a Sapporo–Furano Itinerary
Choose your base, understand the transfers and lift passes, and compare five trips that include Furano Resort Orika.
Last updated: October 13, 2026. Prices and seasonal operations checked against the linked sources.
Furano Ski Resort is in central Hokkaido, a couple of hours by road from Sapporo. It suits skiers who want dry snow, long groomed runs and a real farming town at the bottom of the hill, not a purpose-built resort village. For winter 2026–27 the operator plans to run from November 28, 2026 to May 5, 2027, depending on snow and weather.
So how does Furano skiing fit into a real trip? Most visitors fly into New Chitose Airport and spend a few nights in Sapporo or at a second resort. Then they spend several nights around Furano, allowing for transfer days as well as skiing. The things that cause problems are small but important: how far the hotel is from the lifts, how you get there each morning, and whether you need to buy a lift ticket at all.
This guide answers those questions and then compares the five Furano packages in our catalog. If you're still choosing a mountain, our Hokkaido ski resorts guide compares the other options.
Quick Answer: The Simplest Furano Ski Trip to Book
Start with HK004 Sapporo City Break & Furano Ski.
It runs 8 days and 7 nights: three nights in Sapporo, then four at Furano Resort Orika, with seven breakfasts included. Chartered taxis take you from New Chitose Airport to Sapporo, from Sapporo to Furano, and from Furano back to the airport. Your ski equipment is delivered from the airport to Furano, so you don't have to carry ski bags around the city. The Furano lift pass isn't included, which is handy if you already have an Ikon Pass.
The published range is USD 3,200–3,600 per person, based on two people sharing a room. Your departure date, room arrangement and availability determine the final quote.
Furano Ski Area at a Glance: Two Zones, One Mountain
Furano has hosted FIS World Cup races. The official course guide lists 28 courses, 839 meters of vertical and a maximum gradient of 34 degrees. Two big lifts do most of the climbing: the Furano Ropeway and the Kitanomine Gondola. Chairlifts cover the rest, and one standard lift ticket is valid in both zones.
Furano Zone vs Kitanomine Zone
The Furano Zone is the ropeway side. Prince-run resort hotels sit near its base, and so does Ningle Terrace, a cluster of small log-cabin craft shops that's especially pretty on a snowy evening. This zone usually opens first and stays open later into spring. Its wide, gentle courses are good for learning.
The Kitanomine Zone rises behind Kitanomine village. Restaurants, bars and lodges are a short walk from the gondola, and downtown Furano is a short drive away. Kitanomine has usually opened later than the Furano Zone, in December rather than late November. If you're coming early in the season, check which lifts are actually open.
2026–27 Season Dates, Hours and Night Skiing
The official Furano winter page (in Japanese) gives November 28, 2026 as the planned opening day, with the season running until May 5, 2027. Those dates are plans, not promises. Opening depends on snow, and the two zones can open and close on different dates.
Hours vary by lift and season. The 2026–27 ticket conditions give a daytime start of 8:30 a.m., changing to 9:00 a.m. for spring skiing from March 23. Selected night-ski lifts are scheduled until 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and 7:30 p.m. on weekends, holidays and December 26–January 3. Check the day's operation before making an evening plan.

Is Furano Skiing Right for Your Group?
Short answer: it works best for mixed groups. Published terrain breakdowns put most of the mountain at beginner and intermediate level, with a smaller share for advanced skiers.
Beginners and Kids Learning to Ski
Gentle courses near the Furano Zone base make learning less stressful. Several snow sports schools in the area teach in English for adults and children. Reserve lessons ahead for peak weeks, and confirm the language, meeting point and children's age requirements with the school. None of our five Furano packages include lessons or ski rentals.
Intermediates and Experts
Intermediates probably get the most out of Furano, with long cruising runs from the top of the ropeway and gondola all the way down.
Experts will find some steeper pitches and great powder days. If steep lift-served terrain is your main goal, though, two or three days of skiing here may be plenty. That's one reason our longer packages pair Furano with Sahoro or Rusutsu. Experts planning to go off-piste should read the resort's current rules when they arrive and go with a qualified local guide.

Where to Stay for the Furano Ski Resort: Choosing Your Base
Where you sleep decides what every ski morning looks like. Each area has its own trade-offs:
| Base area | Getting to the lifts | Evenings | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Furano Zone base | Walk to the ropeway area | Hotel restaurants, Ningle Terrace | Families who want short walks |
| Kitanomine village | Walk to the gondola | The most restaurants and bars near a lift | Skiers who want to walk to dinner |
| Downtown Furano (near JR Furano Station) | Local bus, shuttle or taxi | The widest choice of local restaurants | Food-focused trips and rail travelers |
| Hillside / Nakafurano | Hotel shuttle or taxi | Quiet, mostly in-hotel | Views, space and a calmer stay |
Where Our Furano Packages Put You
Every Furano stay in our catalog is at Furano Resort Orika, not at the hotels by the lift bases. Orika sits on a hillside in Nakafurano, the town just north of Furano, with a road transfer from JR Nakafurano Station.
It is not ski-in/ski-out. Expect a quiet hillside base with a drive to the slopes, not a slopeside hotel.
Getting From Your Hotel to the Slopes Each Morning
Many people miss this. The chartered taxis in our packages cover the airport transfers and the hotel-to-hotel moves listed in each itinerary. They don't include daily trips to the lifts.
Orika's winter-transfer notice describes a free winter shuttle (December to March) to and from Furano Ski Resort, JR Furano Station and Nakafurano, which you book by the day before. Times and stops can change, so confirm the current schedule at the front desk, or ask us to check before you travel. Separately, the Furano Tourism Association's September 9 announcement lists a town-to-ski-area bus for December 1–March 31 at ¥500, without reservations. It connects downtown with both zones; it is not Orika's hotel shuttle. Recheck its timetable before travel, and arrange a taxi if the available services don't fit your day.

Lift Passes: Buy at the Ski Area, Bring Ikon, or Book Them In
You have three options.
Buy your own. HK002, HK004, HK006 and HK007 don't include lift passes, so you only pay for the days you actually ski. For 2026–27, the official adult one-day rate is ¥9,000 from December 5 to March 22, or ¥7,500 for November 28–December 4 and March 23–May 5. These are standard rates; member discounts differ. Elementary-school-age children and younger ski free, but must collect a free ticket at the window.
Use a pass you already have. Furano joined the Ikon Pass in winter 2025–26. For 2026–27, the official Ikon comparison table lists 7 days on the Ikon Pass and 5 days on the Ikon Base Pass. The Ikon Session Pass doesn't include Furano. Check the terms again before you fly. Our Ikon Pass Japan guide explains how to use the pass at resorts across Japan.
Book a package with passes. HK102 Sahoro & Furano with Lift Tickets includes a Sahoro & Furano lift pass and five dinners. The catalog doesn't spell out exactly which days the pass covers, so ask us to confirm before you buy any extra tickets.
A note for pass holders: HK002 Sahoro & Furano Ski Journey follows the same 11-day route without lift passes or the dinners. If your pass covers the Furano portion, compare the two so you don't pay twice for those days. Price the Sahoro lift access separately: Furano's Ikon access does not establish coverage at the other resort.
Getting to Furano: Airport, Rail, Bus and Private Transfers
All five packages start and end at New Chitose Airport. Asahikawa Airport is closer to Furano, but flying in there means you'd be outside our package transfers.
| Option | Route | Pros | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chartered taxi (included in all five packages) | New Chitose Airport ↔ hotel, plus the hotel-to-hotel legs listed | Door to door, nothing to book yourself | Covers the listed legs only, not daily lift trips |
| Winter airport bus (Hokkaido Resort Liner) | New Chitose Airport ↔ Furano area | Direct; adult ¥6,000 one way | Airport → Furano December 1–March 30; return December 2–March 31. Reserve ahead and check the stop nearest your hotel. |
| JR train | Sapporo → Takikawa → Furano, or via Asahikawa and the Furano Line | Avoid driving on winter roads | Changes with ski bags; allow roughly 2–3 hours or longer depending on connections. Trains can also be delayed by snow. |
| Highway bus | Sapporo ↔ Furano | Direct from the city | Check the current stop, journey time and luggage rules with Hokkaido Chuo Bus before traveling. |
| Rental car | Anywhere | Flexible | Driving on snow and ice; not one for your first time |
Check rail connections on JR Hokkaido's English site and bus services through the Furano Tourism Association access guide. Allow extra time beyond the published journey in winter.
Realistic Arrival and Departure Buffers
Arriving: if your flight lands late, a city-first route helps. With HK004 you only need to reach Sapporo on Day 1. The transfer to Furano is on Day 4; ask us to plan its timing around your check-in and the short winter daylight hours.
Leaving: don't plan to ski on departure day. Snow can slow the drive back to New Chitose and delay flights, so choose a flight time that leaves plenty of margin. Allow even more if you're connecting to an international flight.
Sample Itinerary: 8 Days in Sapporo and Furano
This day-by-day plan follows HK004. The transfers and hotels come from the catalog. The activities are only suggestions.
Day 1 – Arrive in Hokkaido. Your chartered taxi picks you up at the airport (New Chitose) and takes you to your Sapporo hotel (Hotel Monterey Edelhof Sapporo or similar). Your skis go straight to Furano through the included delivery service. It covers ski equipment only, so keep your suitcases with you.
Day 2 – Sapporo. Free day. Walk Odori Park, try ramen and look around Susukino after dark. For more ideas, see our things to do in Sapporo guide.
Day 3 – Sapporo. Another free day. The Sapporo Snow Festival is scheduled for February 4–11, 2027, and our Snow Festival guide explains how to time your city nights around it.
Day 4 – Transfer to Furano. A chartered taxi takes you from your Sapporo hotel to Furano Resort Orika. Once you've checked in, book the next morning's shuttle. If night skiing is running and you still have energy, a short evening session is possible.
Day 5 – Furano Zone. Buy your lift ticket or scan your Ikon Pass, then ride the Furano Ropeway up for your first runs.
Day 6 – Kitanomine Zone. If your ability and the open courses suit, take the gondola up. Lunch in Kitanomine village is an option; arrange the return transport before staying for dinner.
Day 7 – Last ski day, or a rest day. If fresh snow fell overnight, go early. If not, spend time in town or take a slower day.
Day 8 – Depart. A chartered taxi takes you to New Chitose Airport. The ski delivery service only runs from the airport to Furano, so decide how your skis will get home and ask us when you book.
Four nights in Furano on this route leave three full days between the transfer days. An arrival-evening session is optional and depends on timing, transport and lift operation.

All USD ranges are per person, based on double occupancy, as stated in the linked tours' pricing PDFs. The departure date, room arrangement and availability determine your quote; accommodation tax is extra. The Furano hotel in all five routes is Furano Resort Orika. The current price calendars list selected departures from December 2026 through March 2027, with some dates unavailable; the resort’s longer opening season does not mean these packages are available throughout it.
What's Included and What Isn't
- In all five: 24/7 customer support during your stay in Japan, travel insurance, chartered taxis to and from New Chitose Airport and for the hotel-to-hotel legs listed, and accommodation with breakfast.
- Extra meals: five dinners on HK102, and one dinner at the Jozankei Onsen hotel on HK006. All other meals are on you.
- Lift passes: included only on HK102.
- Not included in any of the five: rentals and ski wear, lessons, unlisted local transport, domestic or international flights to or from New Chitose, and accommodation tax. Daily resort travel is not part of the chartered-taxi inclusion; Orika's separately reserved free winter shuttle may cover the ski-area journey.
All five trips are self-guided, so no guide travels with you. If you'd like one for a day on or off the mountain, we can arrange a local guide as an option.
Choose a starting route
Sapporo City Break & Furano Ski
Three nights in Sapporo and four at Furano Resort Orika. Airport and interhotel transfers and seven breakfasts are included; lift passes are separate.
Share your dates and party size, and we’ll check availability and send a quote for your trip.
Beyond the Slopes: Non-Ski Days and the Sapporo Split
Plan at least one easy day. Ningle Terrace is pleasant on a snowy evening, and downtown Furano has plenty of local restaurants. Biei's Shirogane Blue Pond is a drive north; check whether its winter light-up is running on your dates. None of these are included in the packages.
Then decide when your city nights should fall. HK004 puts Sapporo first, so you can recover from the flight while your skis travel ahead. HK006 puts Sapporo in the middle: Rusutsu, then one night at Jozankei Onsen, two in Sapporo, and Furano last. HK007 has no city nights at all. If Sapporo matters to you, give it at least two nights.
Common Mistakes on a Furano Ski Trip
- Assuming Orika is slopeside. It isn't, so plan around the shuttle.
- Expecting the included taxis to cover daily ski trips. They only cover the airport and hotel-to-hotel legs.
- Paying for lift access twice. Compare HK102 and HK002 if you already have a pass.
- Booking late November and expecting both zones to be open. Kitanomine has usually opened later.
- Assuming all your luggage will be delivered. On HK004 and HK006 the delivery covers ski equipment only, in one direction.
- Leaving rentals and English lessons until you arrive during the holidays or other busy weeks.
